Roaming Around Town (Part i)

Note: Long entry with lots of pictures. Please be patient with the long downloading. :-)

My Malaysian colleagues told me that it's cheaper to buy Winter outfits during Summer. And according to the locals, we should really get the 羽绒服 - DOWN/FEATHER FILLED JACKET, which is more than enough to stand the average -8°C (worst -17°C ) and windy winter days.

Feeling excited, off we went to the 济南人民商场 - "Jinan People's Stock Company" (duh? Engrish again, I say) with 3 of my Malaysian colleagues.

We had lunch first at Mc Donald's.

I tried something different called the Triangle Wrap.
Ya very horny! Suit me though... hoho

Not bad and piping hot! Though the BBQ sauce has too much black pepper. Too heaty for vulnerable me.

Then off we went to the down jacket market.
I've never ever seen down filled jacket this cheap before in my whole freaking life.

You can choose last year's fashion - which costs around RMB 300++ (with feathers around the hood)
Or the year before last - RMB 100 ++ (no feathers around the hood)
Or the >3 years - less than RMB 100

The thing is... there's no way you can tell whether it's last year's or fashion more than 5 years ago as they all looked OLD FASHION to me.

Worse still, they all LOOK THE SAME. The colour selections are just out-of-the-world weird. The only thing you can choose is whether you want feather aroun the hood or not.

So it's no surprise that I COULDN'T FIND ONE THAT I LIKE!

Teletubbies one not bad? Got a horn on the head one.

I think I'll just keep my fingers crossed hoping that my UK winter wear I brought can tahan the freezing and windy weather here.

Then we went to the nearby departmental store and tried out some fitness equipment - the popular slimming belt.

They cost about RMB700. I like it. Very comfortable. :-)

Aiyo, wrong place lah!

Mosquito net is a must have bedroom item in China. There are many nice selections that can really make your bed looks like a princess' slumber.

My mum said that sleeping inside a mosquito net with air-con on is one hell of a pleasure, no need to cover yourself with blanket.

Then we went to an underground market... well, it's literally underground. It was a long TUNNEL ok... easily 1000 shops inside.

First was the fashion shops. Well, mostly for the lower class, though they are NOT even near cheap.

And I realised RED is never old fashion in China.

About RMB40 plus for a t-shirt. (Money sucker!)

Fashion sense in Mountain East falls into 3 categories:
1. Samseng teenager look with WEIRD hairdo
2. Very old fashion nenek look.
3. Ladylike sixties look.

Jesus, I know my sister will say "Suit you loh!". But I NO like, ok?

I've always like Bom-Bom head, but since most teenagers here got Bom-Bom head, it kind of put me off already. :-p

Looks like Sungei Wang hoh?

The ladies wear section is SO LOOOOONG we walked until our legs couldn't tahan.

And then we went to the part where they sell girls' hair accesories.

Even SCARIER!
SO MANY OF THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

More and more!

Can make your own "hair decoration" here.

They are really not cheap. Most are above RMB30.

Nice cats that never pee or scratch your sofa.

To be continued...

Better buy one for the winter now. Your uk ones will not stand up to the winter there. The locals know what's is best for them. Even cheap ones are ok.
