I am thrilled because one of my professors wanted to buy me dinner tonight.
Me and my Anatomy cum Chinese Calligraphy professor
He's one of those RARE Mountain East man that is well mannered and speak with assertion and most important of all, speaks a language that I can understand - Mandarin.
If anything, I'm no good at socialising with China man.
I simply am not on the same frequency as they are.
You see, if people like Faizal and my wild bunch of monkey siblings can come to the conclusion that I am weird, you can imagine what reserved Mountain East people think of me.
So I decided to brought an uncle colleague along and let him strikes the chord.
Before dinner, the professor showed us his art work in the office of the Head of the Labour Union, who's a master of calligraphy as well.
Left: Head of Labour Union
Middle: My teacher
Right: My classmate
They are really big and had to be rolled out on the floor.
When I look at his artwork, my mind is just point blank. What a shame. Now, I may know the A-Z of western art, but Chinese art?
I cannot make head nor tail of it.
I really don't know what to comment because it's just so not my department. I'm so glad my uncle colleague is there!
Then the professor brought us to this restaurant called 仙竹源, which was quite good. We just need to order what we want from the 3D menu! So easy.
If I remember correctly, it should be called 脆皮鲜虾煎饼 - Crispy Shrimps Pancake. Apparently, the paper like pancake is a famous local food. You use it to wrap anything you fancy.
Yummy! This is my first taste of lamb/mutton in Mountain East. Oh god, how can something as simple as this be SO NICE?!! The meat is sooooooo tender.
I feel hungry already!
Yo... my professor is so good at ordering. He said that most girls like sweet food, so he ordered this dessert made of pounded glutinous rice with soft melting cream inside for me. Those small ones in the middle are wrapped with dates.
How I want to eat this EVERY FREAKING DAY.
As usual, the table is piled up with unfinished food. 7 dishes for 4 people, sure cannot finish, ok.

A Ha,
This old man also cannot understand! I thought arts is a universal form of communication, no language or age barrier!
I don't really get what you mean by "This old man also cannot understand!" but claiming art to be a universal language is very debatable. In fact, it's been discussed for centuries. There is no straight answer.
As far as I'm concerned, you can never understand Chinese Calligraphy if you have not known it's history and the ORIGINATE form that it's trying to copy. Some claim that it should look exactly the same as our anchestors', where as some claim that it should be creative and personafied. Even Prof Ding's work has divided opinions.
Same applies to Western Art which is really esoteric. There is no way one can understand the greatest of Picasso if you didn't know about the pre-war years and the impact of Impressionist art had on art history.
If art was really a universal language, our anthropologists wouldn't have spent so much time, money and effot trying to find out what the ancient CAVE PAINTINGS are about.

The only universal language on earth is: your sincere SMILE. :-)
