What Am I Up to Recently

Hello, all! So sorry for the hiatus, been 'busy' lah! :-) Can't be stucked to blogging all the time and forget about studying, right?

And, Ah Fan! I'll get back to all your questions later, just bear with me!

Well, today we put my RMB 120 steam iron to test. It's something I've been looking all over while staying in K.L. because I've got piles and piles of clothes to iron every weekend. The closest I could find was around RM800 and it's huge. So I was really glad that China has a household version and cheap!

Well, it was fast to prove China made products are still a long way to go before compared to international standard. First off, it's always the issue of QC. And they use the cheapest material possible making it not durable. The steam iron was a good idea but a tough cookie to use. It's just too much effort! I give it a 5 out of 10.

And we had something new cooked by our local classmate. You've got to love all the pumkins, potatoes and sweet potatoes here in Mountain East. Coz they are damn cheap and nice. Now I understand why my professor kept all the pumkins underneath his bed while visiting K.L., because he missed home!

This local dish is highly recommended by our Taiwanese friend. Apparently it's a very popular comfort meal here. It's called the Goose Bumps Pumkin Soup. Ya, that's the WEIRDEST name ever given to a dish. Man, it just too weird. You've got to give 2 thumbs up for the Chinese for their creativity. But it proves to be one of the easiest meal to prepare.

1. Cut half a pumkin (enough for 4 people) and cut into dices or shapes to your own liking
2. To make the goose bumps, mix flour with a little bit of water to make a dough and use your finger to nib into small pieces about half the size of your thumb, or smaller.
2. Add a little oil (preferably olive oil or red palm oil) to your wok and make scrambled like egg with 3 eggs.
3. Put scrambled egg aside and fry finely chopped shallots, garlic and dried shrimps (or any spices like cumin or marinated spicy and salty veggie) for half a min in a burning hot wok.
4. Add in diced pumkin and fry for about 2-5 min
5. Add stock/water and goose bumps and cook for 15 min, or until pumkin becomes tender
6. Add salt, pepper, sesame oil to taste
7. Add in egg and aromatic herbs and serve

Disgusting or not? ha!

We also had our own version of Sour Shredded Potato, fried with sweet vinegar and dried chillie. Crunchy! Me love it.
