I've like never been to the KTV since ... *retrieving data inside sophisticated goldfish-like structured memory storage* ... yes, the ice-age.
Wow, have I gone nuts? Really, I was asking myself the same question over and over again on the way to this Mountain East KTV lounge. I've got to confess, I'm a bit of a snob when it comes to KTV entertainment. It's so... low class. At best, it's only an ego satisfying toy for the vocally impaired who could not make their way to the glittering stage. I really despise the idea of singing to the TV with instructed lyrics and faux-music orchestrated by some dizzy electronic devices. Err... hang on, am I inviting nasty comments in now for the KTV fans? I know. So... err.. that's just my 'honest' opinion. :-)
Anyhow, you see, they say it's the company that counts. And so I went, with my buddies. Don't be such a snob lah, for once.
The place is quite pack full given that it's a Wednesday afternoon. Yes, I skipped work. And customers come from all walks of life, e.g. rich aunties, teenagers + police officers in uniform! What the F.
It's cheap too. Room for 4 costed RMB 35 for about 4 hours. And everyone was really excited as if they are going to perform to an audience. *shakes head*
They are virtually tonnes of chinese pop songs loaded in the system. I really do not give a damn man. First off, they don't have any of my favourite Calypso king - Harry Belafonte songs for me to sing all the coconut and banana. Ok, I can do with no tropical fruits, but, heck, they don't even have the lovely yellow bird that sits on the banana tree. Damn. That's not fair.
Ok lah, they DO have all the sweety tunes of The Carpenters like Please, Mr Postman! etc. Aiyo, do I really want to beg the postman? And I don't like all the pathetic heartbroken sad tear jerkers, that's SO unlike me. And... what's wrong with all the people who like to sing these songs? Life is sad enough! Aren't we supposed to have FUN in KTV? Why do they jsut have to make people feel sad listening to sorrowful songs in a small room with dimmed lighting and all that? Talk about indulgence. Ya, you must be wondering what I sang in the end... TARA! stupid Jambalaya and alike, which really SUITS me I must say. Haha. I would have gone for Guantanamera if it wouldn't for the fact that the system didn't have it. Something is seriously wrong with the idea of buying music from a tv set to sing stupid songs. Terribly wrong. Get a life, I will say.
All in all, my buddies were certainly having the greatest time of all singing all the chinese pop songs while I amused myself with silly-dilly acts.
No, I still don't have special liking to singing to the square box.
And yes, now I know why people say it's the thought that counts when they received gifts that they don't want. Because at the end of the day, after a KTV session, it's not the songs but the company that counts.
But just so you know KTV also happens to be:
- drugs or psychotropic /s k -tr pk, -tr p k/ substances (that) are chemicals that alter brain function, resulting in temporary changes in perception, mood, consciousness, or behaviour. Extreme use may have permanent effects on the brain. Such drugs are often used for recreational and spiritual purposes, as well as in medicine, especially for treating neurological and psychological illnesses.
